20 Most Anticipated Games of 2010 (1,2)
Posted 18-01-2010 at 04:46 PM by jodie111
With so many potentially awesome games coming out over the next 12 months, it’s proven difficult to whittle down our list of the year’s most anticipated games to just 20.
We’ve limited the list to titles that have not yet been released in any territory. This means Final Fantasy XIII and Wario Ware: DIY, for example, don’t qualify — although you can already read our extensive coverage of both.
As with last year’s list, we’ve focused on games that are likely to actually ship in 2010. We can guarantee that a handful of these will be delayed until 2011 — we just can’t tell you which ones.
The good news is, these 20 upcoming games for consoles and PC have us thinking that 2010 might be the most-rewarding year yet for gamers.
Alan Wake
What it is: A psychological thriller action game from the people who brought you Max Payne.
Why we’re excited: We have every reason to suspect that Alan Wake’s horror story will be engaging. But the real reason we want to play it is that Microsoft has been pimping the game practically forever — it was announced in 2005. We’re sick of hearing the game’s title spoken in hushed tones at press conferences with little to back it up. Time to put your money where your mouth is, guys!
Where, when: Xbox 360, spring 2010
APB
What it is: Massively multiplayer GTA, a persistent online cops-versus-criminals game.
Why we’re excited: Because the development team’s previous game, Crackdown, was as addictive as the drug it shares a name with. Also because APB is not your typical MMO. Online games frequently throw up barriers that make it tough to hook up and play with friends. By ditching leveling (the treadmill that keeps most MMO players hooked) for Left 4 Dead–style grouping, APB hopes to make it easier to connect with friends and kill others. The fact that this fun goes down in a populated open world is just the icing. –Gus Mastrapa
