Nintendo Says Metroid: Other M Still Coming 2010

Posted 18-01-2010 at 04:39 PM by jodie111
Nintendo still plans to release the Team Ninja-developed Wii game Metroid: Other M in 2010, it said in a statement Tuesday.

Why is it newsworthy that Nintendo said something again that it said last year? Because president Satoru Iwata has since said that The Legend of Zelda is also coming in 2010. Add that to Super Mario Galaxy 2 and you have a very crowded calendar — too crowded, if you ask me.

Nintendo made the statement in response to a report that the 2009 special edition Metroid Prime Trilogy was no longer being printed. Here’s the full text:

Nintendo’s Metroid Prime: Trilogy is the ultimate collector’s edition experience for fans of the Metroid Prime series, combining all three critically acclaimed games on one disc with Wii motion controls. Copies of the game are currently available at major retailers nationwide. The next highly anticipated offering in the Metroid franchise is Metroid: Other M, which will be available this year.

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but we already have a possible analog to this situation: 2002 on the GameCube. Nintendo released Super Mario Sunshine in the summer, then split the other two games between the two major territories: Wind Waker came out in Japan only in 2002, and Metroid Prime only in the U.S.

Could a similar situation happen with these two games? Considering that we’ve only heard confirmation from Japan about Zelda and from the U.S. about Metroid, it’s certainly possible.

Or maybe Mario will get delayed, just to mess with everybody.
